New teachers and eMINTS teachers both experience significant changes in mindset and role during the process of either becoming a new teacher or becoming an eMINTS certified teacher. Confronting new challenges and information pushes individuals from a state of equilibrium into a state of chaos, which requires adaptation for survival. Pascale (2000) says that people usually think of equilibrium, or balance, as positive. However, prolonged equilibrium causes senses and skills to atrophy. When new challenges occur, individuals must exercise their brains in ways that have lain dormant for some time. Veteran teachers may have experienced longer periods of equilibrium than veteran teachers. As a result, new teachers may possess more flexible responses, and they may have more of a growth mindset toward change. On the other hand, veteran teachers come to the table with more experience in all areas of teaching. eMINTS teachers represent a combination of novice and veteran teachers; therefore, these teachers may display a variety of education, experience, personalities, and abilities.

I can't edit, but this sentence should read as follows: Veteran teachers may have experienced longer periods of equilibrium than NOVICE teachers.

New teachers and new eMINTS teachers probably both share an excitement about the year ahead! They are embracing new ideas and change and eager to see their students succeed and excel! By the same token, both teachers are probably a little nervous or anxious about what the year holds in store for them and the challenges they may face.
